Types of Lighting
Ambient or general lighting
Ambient lighting in a room is what we refer to as General lighting.
This is the primary means of lighting and the mood creating element for a room. It is the natural light that a space gets from the sun during the day and the artificial light that mimics natural night in the evening hours. Ambient lighting is used in a design to create depth in a room, it adds warmth, as well as set the mood.
Task Lighting
Lighting fixtures like table lamps, desk lamps, and under counter lighting. They are used to create light for tasks, such as cooking, hobbies, reading, and highlighting art an design pieces. This is the second layer of lighting designers use to build on the ambient lighting in a room.
Accent Lighting
Decorative fixtures like wall mounted uplighter and foot/floor lamps add a third level of lighting texture to a room by helping to create the desired mood and feel for the room,accent lighting is used to highlight features of the room as well as draw attention away from other areas. Accent Light fittings need to be incorporated into the planning and designs of the room as they create the feel and scene for the room.
